Dinosaur jr.

July 3, 2009

Heavy Metal Magazine-styled Lord of the Rings ideals abound on the cover art: pixies carried through dank industry by large ‘tree men’ who appear ‘tired and emotional’. Press play and walls of guitar crash upon your psyche like waves of Nimbin sunshine. There are unashamed solos and images of flannelette flailing in sonic salute – it’s 1993 again, surely? Every song here is a trailblazing killer, triumphant and free. Don’t be surprised if vinyl copies begin adorning bedroom walls of the enlightened the world over. Like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur jr. are riding a second wind of creativity and balls-out musical experimentation, defying a 25-year existence. Majestic. Liberation
