Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!

March 12, 2010

Sea Priest

RATING:

It’s always nice when a band gets it together. The music industry is filled with upstarts who choke in the transition from ‘next big thing’ to debut album. Not Adelaide’s Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! Two years since they were ‘unearthed’ by Triple J, they’ve delivered a toned, energetic debut filled with pop hooks and rock swagger. An album that remains cohesive even as it explores psychedelic guitars, Joy Division-esque drums and ’80s doom pop. Yes, it’s a mixed bag of influences, but it works - the Sea Priest’s fishing expedition has landed a great haul. And a great debut. By Mikolai Napieralski
