Scissor Sisters

July 26, 2010

Night Work

RATING:

Lead singer Jake Shears probably described it best. According to him, the new Scissor Sisters’ album is “supersexual and sleazy”. It’s certainly geared towards the dance floor; the LP’s mix of disco, new wave and pop revelling in the notorious hedonism of New York clubs from the late ’70s. Who else is going to write songs about sexual gladiators? While the mirrorball, hands-in-the-air moments get a bit much towards the album’s conclusion, this is still a welcome return – a love letter to all things shiny, disco, half-naked and sequined. Fans of the group will feel right at home. By Mikolai Napieralski
