Garmin Nuvi 255

June 26, 2009

This well-priced, slim unit from Garmin is a handy road accessory.

RATING:

$299

This well-priced, slim unit from Garmin is a handy road accessory. The maps are easy to read and the voice direction has an Australian accent (hallelujah!). The recalculation time (if you take a wrong turn, or disobey the instruction) is super-fast, but the calculation of arrival time seemed slightly askew. This unit had me getting from the CBD, across town, and through another suburb in two minutes – perhaps possible if I was Marty McFly on a hoverboard! This Nuvi offers extras such as picture viewer, world clock, currency converter, calculator, and the new ecoRoute feature for maximising fuel efficiency by showing shortest or fastest route options, reporting on fuel usage, and giving fuel-saving tips.
