Kicker iK501 iPod Dock

February 5, 2010

$399

RATING:

With car audio products capable of causing seismic vibrations, brand leader Kicker is both loved and cursed. The company now takes its muscle indoors with the iK501 iPhone/iPod dock, featuring a 6” square subwoofer, silk dome tweeters and 5” speakers. It doesn’t disappoint. Compatible with any iPhone or iPod (older generation or non-Apple products via aux port), the 501 is chunky yet compact. Its digital display and rotary knob, while slightly dated, offer simplicity; and the remote ensures you won’t leave the couch. Capable of disturbing the most deaf of neighbours, the iK501 produces quality sound and is a solid buy for the apartment dweller. (Note: if receiving no output when device is set in main dock, ensure ‘aux in’ option on Kicker display is turned off.) Andrew Wallace
