Paul Simon's iconic album Graceland has been chronicled in a new documentary to be released later this month.

Under African Skies is due to debut at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22.

US Documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger, behind the Metalica doco Some Kind of Monster, directed the full-length film that looks at the making of Graceland and the furore Simon created when he travelled to South Africa to record with local talent.

An Australian release date will be set later in the year.
